“THE WHOLE SHEBANG” by Marina Alexeeva and Vladimir Rannev

February 6 — March 10, 2021
Audiovisual installation
Marina Gisich Gallery
St. Petersburg, emb. of the Fontanka River, 121
8 (800) 100-43-04

Curator: Dmitry Renansky.
The Project is technically supported by CYLAND MediaArtLab.

«The flesh of the installation is formed by a technique that visually creates the impression of mad technogenic bustle, the “demonic life”. The audio is an ecstatic “symphony of comfort”. Before us is an army battered by struggles with consumer greed.»
Vladimir Rannev

Marina Alekseeva has always been interested in the social structures of contemporary society, which the artist has explored through the prism of the physical and material environment of human habitation. A new joint project with Vladimir Rannev reflects back on a series of Alekseeva’s lightboxes from the 2000s that recreated miniature versions of the interiors of various religious buildings, from a cathedral to a mosque and an Orthodox church. The subject under examination in the total installation “The Whole Shebang” is the main temple of the modern human — their home, filled to the brim with devices and gadgets.

January 29, 2021 – March 26, 2021
MARINA GISICH GALLERY
Russia, St. Petersburg, emb. of the Fontanka River, 121
The project technical support – CYLAND Media Art Lab

“Any war begins with the willingness to fight. And this willingness is cultivated using militaristic slogans, hateful propaganda, and manipulation of patriotic feelings. In this sense, every war begins with words, before any shots are fired. The audiovisual installation “Ready To Repeat” is our response to the rhetoric of hate that is spreading worldwide, especially in political circles – and that we are strongly against.” (V. Rannev, M. Alekseeva)

Digital, computer, internet, software, and multimedia art forms — from CD-ROM-based multimedia projects to net.art — have been created for many years and have entered the mainstream art world. Milestone exhibitions such as the Whitney Biennial included digital works as early as 2000 and Whitney Museum’s artport was launched in 2001. University art departments around the world are formalizing digital media programs; textbooks on digital art have been published; conferences around art and technology are thriving; and gradually museums and private collectors are beginning to accession works in digital media into their art collections.
