Carol Parkinson & HansTammen at CYBERFEST-2009

ECHOLOCATION by Harvestworks (Carol Parkinson и HansTammen, New York)
Gryaznaja gallery on Marata str., Saint-Petersburg, Russia. Cyberfest festival.

Parkinson and Tammen will present their work ECHOLOCATION, for live sound processing instruments and Endangered Guitar. For them, every performance with electronic instruments is site-specific. Their instruments are designed to react with the resonant frequencies of the room, bringing the sonic qualities of the surrounding conditions to the listener’s attention. They start with some microscopic sound details that investigate the acoustics of the room. Small but controlled variations are introduced persistently, some take on a new musical life on their own, others die out at a very early stage of their existence. The random drift moves the piece slowly into new directions following the characteristics of the room.

* Supported by Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation through US Artists International in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and the Trust for Mutual Understanding.

RUBBER PRODUCT №…

It seems like galoshes were called product “number one” by the language of soviet official papers. They were dull and unpleasant, according to those days’ fashion, but now they became amusing and even stylish. In the same time it is a bit creepy thing, if you remember the unforgettable “Krasnyj Treugolnik” (“Red Triangle”) – a place of forced labour, called “chemistry”, where galoshes were produced. Rubber product “number two” was a condom – an amusing, indecent and even secret, but very unpleasant thing, according to soviet way of thinking. Now it is banal, like a sugar candy. There are also enemas, pipettes, pacifiers, gas masks, police batons – tools of salvation and suffering.

In short – rubber is not an ordinary material. Continue reading “Vladimir Kozin – “RUBBERS””
