Christmas festival of contemporary art in Vyborg

The artists of the CYLAND MediaArtLab will take part in the Christmas festival of contemporary art in Vyborg ‘What’s going on at the baby carriage factory?’

Where: 5 naberezhnaya sorokaletiya VLKSM, Vyborg, Russia
Opening: December 26, 2020 at 7pm
Curators: Philipp Avetisov, Julia Rybakova
The festival is organized with the support of CYLAND MediaArtLab.

The exhibition will feature works from the collections of the Museum of Nonconformist Art, Art-League Gallery, Polkovnik Gallery (Yuri Nikiforov) and the private collection of the Frants family, including objects by Alexander Terebenin, Peter Bely, Alexander Shishkin-Hokusai, Anna Frants, Elena Gubanova, Ivan Govorkov and many others.

Digital, computer, internet, software, and multimedia art forms — from CD-ROM-based multimedia projects to net.art — have been created for many years and have entered the mainstream art world. Milestone exhibitions such as the Whitney Biennial included digital works as early as 2000 and Whitney Museum’s artport was launched in 2001. University art departments around the world are formalizing digital media programs; textbooks on digital art have been published; conferences around art and technology are thriving; and gradually museums and private collectors are beginning to accession works in digital media into their art collections.

In “Changing Landscapes 3”, twelve films/video works selected from CYLAND’s Video Archive create together a genuine, introspective look at contemporary Russian New Media. These videos / films by active Eastern European artists offer personal perspectives into the continuum of their native country’s past, present and future. Pieces by established, recognized artists Boris Kazakov, Yuri Vasiliev and Ludmila Belova, Marina Alexeeva, Dimitri Lurie are joined by early works by Maxim Svishev, Masha Sha, Anton Khlabov and the “Upward!” community – each embodying artistic development within the age of digital technology in Russia.

ID. ART:TECH EXHIBITION explores ID as a phenomenon with wide scatter of meanings from the forms of sociopolitical functioning of portraits of Soviet Nonconformism to the images of mass culture, aesthetics of ID cards, passport picture and social networks. This exhibition brings together a collection of experiential-based ideas and projects mediated by technologically progressive visualization methods, as well as paintings, drawings, photography, video, and sculpture. The exhibition is organized by CYLAND Media Art Lab in collaboration with the Kolodzei Art Foundation.
