The “Cosmos and Chaos” project at the National Art Club in New York is the latest in a series of exhibitions organized as part of the CYFEST-13 International Media Art Festival. This exhibition brings together artists working in different media including painting, drawing, graphic art, photography, video, new media and interactive installations. They all share an interest in the proposed topic, which evokes a wide range of responses to space exploration, climate change, the contemporary cultural and historical context and the social environment. In one space, the project will unite Soviet nonofficial art from the Frants Family Collection and Kolodzei Art Foundation, as well as media objects and installations by contemporary artists.

Founded in 1967 in Paris by kinetic artist and astronautical pioneer Frank Malina, Leonardo has become the leading international journal on the influence of science and contemporary technology on art and music, and also on how art and discoveries in the humanities change science and technology. Leonardo articles are actively indexed and hold third place on Google Scholar among texts on visual art (data for 2020).

Digital, computer, internet, software, and multimedia art forms — from CD-ROM-based multimedia projects to net.art — have been created for many years and have entered the mainstream art world. Milestone exhibitions such as the Whitney Biennial included digital works as early as 2000 and Whitney Museum’s artport was launched in 2001. University art departments around the world are formalizing digital media programs; textbooks on digital art have been published; conferences around art and technology are thriving; and gradually museums and private collectors are beginning to accession works in digital media into their art collections.

ID. ART:TECH EXHIBITION explores ID as a phenomenon with wide scatter of meanings from the forms of sociopolitical functioning of portraits of Soviet Nonconformism to the images of mass culture, aesthetics of ID cards, passport picture and social networks. This exhibition brings together a collection of experiential-based ideas and projects mediated by technologically progressive visualization methods, as well as paintings, drawings, photography, video, and sculpture. The exhibition is organized by CYLAND Media Art Lab in collaboration with the Kolodzei Art Foundation.

The annual Cyfest Digital Video Art Program is a selection of 20 art works which are chosen from international submissions via an open call.

The series explores the role of art in our current forecast — bringing into focus how artists absorb modern technologies as tools to create mirrors of our current selves; uncovering how we, the population at large, currently rely on augmentation through vast digital means.

In 2016, CYFEST (CYBERFEST) celebrates its 10th anniversary.

Founded by CYLAND Media Art Lab in 2007, CYBERFEST was held annually for six years across St Petersburg’s top art institutions (The State Hermitage Museum, Peter and Paul Fortress, Kuryokhin Modern Art Centre, Creative Space TKACHI, Borey Gallery, Gallery of Experimental Sound and Art re. FLEX gallery), earning a reputation as the original and the most significant New Media event in Russia.

Making a pivotal leap in 2013 — CYBERFEST’s 7th edition expanded for the first time outside Russia to Berlin, attracting over 10,000 visitors over 5 days. In 2014/2015, CYLAND & CYBERFEST reached further by branching to innovative cities (St Petersburg, Moscow, Tokyo, Berlin, New York, Bogota, London) on the Art & Tech frontier, strengthening cultural exchange among innovators.
