“SNOWBALL FIGHT”
Artist: Anna Frants
Programming: Sergey Komarov
Developed by CYLAND Media Lab 2010

Snowballs can be made not only from snow but also from foam, clay, sugar, or any other white material. For those whose childhood was in the former USSR, there’s nothing better than cotton with starch – a traditional material for homemade New Year’s toys. In this installation, snowballs made in a technique we’ve almost forgotten are enlarged and placed on a pedestal, representing a monument to childhood games. Moreover, they serve as screens for projected animation of a snowball fight (controlled by sensors). This work – both a tool and a process simultaneously – represents play in all its forms.

“WINDOW FRAME”
Kinetic Installation
Artist: Anna Frants
Programming and Robotics:
Sergey Komarov, Alexey Grachev
Developed by CYLAND Media Lab 2010

“Light is indescribable. Light is emotion.”
Terry Dreyfus

Light or the absence of light, what we call “shadow,” makes us feel weightless and stimulates associations leading to emotions. The installation “Window Frame,” being a figurative object, suggests a narrative, but at the same time, the element of time and movement takes our abstract thinking to the next level.
The shadow of the window frame moves across an empty space over 24 hours with the help of an old Soviet slide projector mounted on a rotating stand. The color of the light “falling” from the window is controlled by painted 35mm glass slides which the projector changes depending on the time of day. Of course, it is important from what time the 24-hour count begins. = ))

“LITTLE ONE” from the “SHADOWS” series
Artist: Anna Frants
Video Installation

Fascinated by the complex nature of memories and how memories are directly or indirectly imprinted in our ever-changing sensations, artist Anna Frants explores the strange mechanism of memory action, using the visual metaphor of a human shadow (without a real existence/body or physical qualities of a person). The aim here is to show the ephemeral nature of an indistinct memory, to create a kinship with a familiar figure, sounds.
Vernissage on December 21 at 17:00.
