The narrow rearview mirror. A diorama of a suburban forest park, illuminated by the tremor of a street lamp. At the International Contemporary Art Fair in Lithuania

CYLAND MediaArtLab participated in ArtVilnius’14, an International Contemporary Art Fair in Lithuania from June 18 to 21, 2014. As our team develops the idea to attract new artists, programmers, engineers and activists to initiate new projects in the field of media arts, with CYLAND MediArtLab Vilnius launching in the framework of Uzupis Art Incubator (UMI), recent and well-accepted works by the lab are shown at ArtVilnius’14.

Marina Koldobskaya presented wall painting open session entitled THE END in the hall of Lithuanian Exhibition Centre “Litexpo”, uncovering the delight of a creative act itself.

Lecture presentation on Clara Rockmore in Vilnius, Lithuania

CYLAND’s Sergei Teterin gave a lecture presentation on Clara Rockmore, Léon Theremin and his famous electronic musical instrument in Vilnius, Lithuania on May 6.

Clara Rockmore was a virtuoso performer of the theremin, born as Clara Reisenberg in Vilnius, Vilna Governorate (now Lithuania). Rockmore was a child prodigy on the violin and entered the Imperial conservatory of Saint Petersburg at the age of five. Unfortunately, bone problems due to childhood malnutrition forced her to abandon violin performance past her teen years. That however led her to discover the newborn electronic instrument and become perhaps the most renowned player of the theremin.

Kurvenschreiber Performs in Vilnius, Lithuania

Kurvenschreiber, a synth trio including CYLAND Audio Archive curators Sergey Komarov and Vlad Dobrovolsky, performed on April 26 at Cultural Marathon (Kulturos Maratonas) in Vilnius, Lithuania.

Along experimental performances this event featured film and video art screenings, installations and creative explorations of the most popular mediums. CYLAND MediArtLab Vilnius has been recently launched in the framework of Uzupis Art Incubator (UMI). And this geographical update has already attracted new artists, programmers, engineers and activists to initiate new projects in the field of media arts.

CYLAND to Present DRUMPAINTING in Vilnius

CYLAND MediaArtLab has recently come to Europe with the new supporting base in the Baltic region. CYLAND MediArtLab Vilnius was launched in the framework of Uzupis Art Incubator (UMI). This geographical update will surely attract new artists, programmers, engineers and activists to initiate new projects in the field of media arts.

On March 21 (the vernal equinox day and concurrently Uzupis New Year) we will present in Vilnius our work and mission and install of MediaArtLab’s well-known interactive projects DRUMPAINTING PHOTOROBOT, that allows to transform live sound into moving image, thus realizing an idea of “colour music” on a modern technological level.

CYBERFEST 2013 in Berlin: Time and Place

Held annually since 2007, CYBERFEST is the first and biggest festival for technologically based art in Russia. Growing over years to become a massive international event, CYBERFEST 2012 rose to include over 80 artists held across St Petersburg’s top institutions: The State Hermitage Museum, Peter and Paul Fortress, KURYOKHIN MODERN ART CENTER, POLIGRAF Art Hall, Borey Gallery, and the Gallery of Experimental Sound.

This year, CYBERFEST will be held in Berlin from November 12 to 17 – marking the first time this important event is held outside St Petersburg. This significant move was designed to strengthen the cultural exchange between Art and Technology creatives within Russia and their international counterparts.

The Night of Contemporary Art in Russia

On June 29 St. Petersburg will host the Night of Contemporary Art – a large-scale program of contemporary Russian art and exhibition projects. The opening will take place at 19:00 on the island of New Holland, where CYLAND MediaArtLab will present its new project DEBRIS – a light installation by Pavel Ivanov and Alexey Grachev, reminiscent of anti-tank obstacle defense turned into glowing stars.

At 22:00 and 2:00 at Anna Frants Gallery Space (Rubinstein street, 23, apt. 39) CYLAND video archive curator Victoria Ilyushkina will present a program on “Jonas Mekas – an American avant-garde cinema hero” with a lecture and a rare documetary sreening “Jonas in the desert” about the New York independent film director and archivist of the American experimental art films.

Time Keeper multi-media project at the Youth Centre of the State Hermitage Museum

As part of the Art in Progress programme at the Youth Centre of the State Hermitage Museum at the General Staff building on 29 May, the Time Keeper multi-media project was opened. An international group of famous artists, representatives of New Media Anna Frants, Alexandra Dementieva, Aranaud Jacobs and Koen Theys showed their work on the eternal theme of the transient nature of time in the life of Man.
