The “Cosmos and Chaos” project at the National Art Club in New York is the latest in a series of exhibitions organized as part of the CYFEST-13 International Media Art Festival. This exhibition brings together artists working in different media including painting, drawing, graphic art, photography, video, new media and interactive installations. They all share an interest in the proposed topic, which evokes a wide range of responses to space exploration, climate change, the contemporary cultural and historical context and the social environment. In one space, the project will unite Soviet nonofficial art from the Frants Family Collection and Kolodzei Art Foundation, as well as media objects and installations by contemporary artists.
The CYFEST International Media Art Festival was held in New York and St. Petersburg in 2020-2021. The projects of the 13th CYFEST brought together more than one hundred artists, curators, art critics, scientists, musicians, composers, collectors, specialists on the history of the Russian avant-garde, and lecturers from the world’s leading universities. The transdisciplinary community of festival participants explored the “cosmos and chaos” arising at the intersection of science and art, to understand what these broad philosophical notions mean to us today and how they can be used as a topic and system of aesthetic perception.

Organizers
CYLAND is a nonprofit organization founded in 2007 in St. Petersburg by independent artists and curators. For over 13 years, CYLAND has been dedicated to supporting the production of and exhibiting New Media Art both on the Russian and international art scene. We are promoting the emergence of new forms of art and high technology interactions, developing professional connections between artists, curators, engineers and programmers around the world and exposing wide audiences to the works in the field of robotics, video art, sound art and net art. Emerging or established, local or international — selected artists are provided with resources from technicians to equipment and professional development.
Over the years, CYLAND has held the annual CYFEST, organizing and participating in various exhibition projects around the world, working on sound and video art archives. In September 2020, CYLAND became the first LASER talks host in Russia.
The Kolodzei Art Foundation, Inc., a US-based not-for-profit public foundation started in 1991, organizes exhibitions and cultural exchanges in museums and cultural centers in the United States, Europe and other countries, often utilizing the considerable resources of the Kolodzei Collection of Russian and Eastern European Art, and publishes books on Russian art. The Kolodzei Collection of Russian and Eastern European Art is one of the largest private art collections, and consists of over 7,000 works, including paintings, drawings, sculptures, photographs, video and new media, by more than 300 artists from Russia, Eastern Europe, and the former Soviet Union.
The National Arts Club was founded in 1898 by author and poet Charles De Kay, the literary and art critic for The New York Times. He together with a group of distinguished artists and patrons conceived of a gathering place to welcome artists of all genres as well as art lovers and patrons. The mission of The National Arts Club is to stimulate, foster, and promote public interest in the arts and to educate the American people in the fine arts.
