HOOLIGANS*
Media installation. 2019
Real-time camera, video projection, toys, programming
From the series “Order Breakers”

*Hooligan – derived from the English word hooligan “bully, troublemaker, hooligan,” from an unidentified form. There are three theories of origin: from the name of Irishman Patrick Houlihan, who caused disturbances in the London district of Southwark; from the word hooley (in Irish – “noisy alcohol party”); from the name of the street gang Hooley gang in the northern district of London Islington. The English word appeared in the 1890s and became international in the early 20th century.

PECK OF SALT

From the series “Attraction Power”

“To know a person, you must eat a peck of salt with them.” (Folk wisdom)

ARTISTS’ UNION. STILL LIFE
Media installation. 2019
From the series “Matter of Chance”

“Artists’ Union. Still Life” is a reflection on the law of large numbers. Is it applicable in visual art – to colors in painting, lines in graphics, forms in sculpture, and the fullness of the image in installation? The law of large numbers is a principle describing the result of performing the same experiment many times. According to this law, the collective action of a large number of random factors leads to a result almost independent of chance. For example, in the 16th century, the length of the English foot was determined by royal decree as the arithmetic mean of the foot length of the first 16 people leaving church after Sunday morning prayers. Although the law of large numbers had not yet been formulated, it is the justification for the principle of the arithmetic mean used in determining the length of the foot.
