From July 15th until August 30th, 2008, the Sonic Self is bringing together local and international sound artists, musicians, video/multimedia and performance artists to facilitate the exchange and development of pioneering ideas, innovative skills and practices in contemporary Sound Art discipline. The Sonic Self – sound art related exhibition and associated music events aim to develop an open, direct audio-visual dialogue in order to render a significant similarities and differences in the growing confluence of audio and visual experiences in contemporary complex & diverse global culture.

The famous quotation: “When the power of love, overcomes the love of power, the world will know the peace.” by Jimmy Hendrix can be certainly simply applied to the Sonic Self as an underlying and unifying inspiration which brought together many of the participating artists from around the world with the main goal that their collaborative projects will bridge disparate audio-visual practices and expose their shared languages.

The exhibition and associated events curated by Jolanta Gora-Wita, Koshek Swaminathan, Anna Frants, Koan Jeff Baysa & Yaro will present selected pioneering artists who use sound as their primal medium and range from spoken word, field recordings, computer generated sound, sound performance, live music to dj sampling.

Video and multimedia by: Romeo Alaeff, Dmitri Bulnigin, Amy Cohen Banker/Amy Kool, Hasan Elahi, Anna Frants, Frankie Hutton, Steve Jones, Andrea Juan, Anna Kolosova, Alexandra Lerman, Natalia Lyakh, Eugene Rodriguez, Dmitri Shubin, Maria Sharafutdinova, Kirill Shuvalov and Yaro/Yola.

Live music and performances by: DJ Olive with special guest, Damian Catera, David Linton, Zuvuya Collective и Robot Gamelons, One Song One Life, Micah Gaugh, Rhaki and Scotto Mycklebust.

The curators of the Sonic Self will bring this unique international project next to India, Chennai in winter 2009 and St. Petersburg, Russia in spring 2009. The Sonic Self project initiated in the spring of 2003 by Jolanta Gora-Wita will be presented for the second time this summer 2008 in the Chelsea Art Museum, NYC.
